Community Garden Flourishes: Mike O’Grady was
inspired to use his horticultural knowledge to help others
Auckland resident Mike O’Grady has decided to give back to his community by using
his knowledge and experience of horticulture. Mr O’Grady recently began a community
garden, which is now flourishing. Those who benefit from his fresh, organic vegetables
include other residents of the shared lodge where he lives, as well as a local community
lunch run by The People of Auckland Community Trust.
Shoes for the homeless:
In April 2013, members of our Wednesday Community gave their spare change in
order to buy 100 pairs of shoes for children in a slum from Borei Keila, Cambodia.
Many of the people who donated towards this project come from difficult backgrounds,
including those who are homeless or living on a benefit. It was great to see this
partnership between one marginalised community and another!
